Today, I was honored to represent State Senator Andrew Lanza at my alma mater, Susan E. Wagner High School on Staten Island, to watch the inauguration of President Barack Obama.
With over 1,000 students in the auditorium, I was inspired to witness all of them cheering on our new president and anxiously listening to his speech.
Our school officials need to do more to include current events into the curriculum. Clearly the students want to be more of a part of what happened today - regardless of political party - it was about being American.
I wish President Obama all the best!
